The Autocar is considered to be America's first car to offer more than a single-cylinder engine and to utilize a drive shaft rather than a chain drive. Commercial vehicles and trucks were successfully added to the Autocar line in 1908. By 1911, Autocar had produced its last passenger car and began focusing completely on commercial vehicles. Today, Autocar is known for its semi-tractors.The Autocar built a reputation for being exceptionally well-made, reliable, and easy to operate. The 1904 Autocar Runabout was powered by a 2-cylinder, 10 horsepower engine and rode on a wheelbase that measured 70 inches. The original factory price was $900.
