The Land Rover Series I was produced from 1958 to 1961. This was followed by the Series II and was the first Land Rover to be styled by Rover's styling department - Chief Stylist David Bache. The vehicle received a wider track, curved side windows, and a rounded roof still. Power was from the well-known 2.25-liter petrol engine (the earliest 1500 examples used the prior 2.0-liter petrol engine which produced 52 horsepower). The 2.25-liter produced 72 horsepower and was closely related to the 2.0-liter diesel unit still in use. The engine became the standard Land Rover until the mid-1980s. After that, the diesel engine's popularity overtook it.The Series II came to in either an 88- or 109-inch platform as either a Station wagon or a Utility vehicle.
