•Gordon Shedden keeps eyes on the prize despite 'mountain to climb'

•Matt Neal vows to help team-mate's bid for fourth BTCC Drivers' crown

With the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship speeding towards a thrilling conclusion, Silverstone lies in wait for Halfords Yuasa Racing duo Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal next weekend (16/17 September), as the pair prepare to tackle the most famous circuit in the country.

Following a rough ride at Rockingham last time out, Shedden and Neal will head back to Northamptonshire with just one goal in mind – returning to winning ways as they seek to boost Honda's championship aspirations, which took a knock two weeks ago.

The Scot – who is bidding to clinch a third BTCC Drivers' crown in as many years, something that has never previously been achieved in the modern era – currently sits third in the points table. Team-mate Neal – another man with multiple titles to his name – is four spots further back in seventh, and whilst mathematically still in contention, has turned his focus towards assisting Shedden's tilt for glory.

Gordon Shedden:

'Our first objective has to be to immediately fight back, because not very much went right for us at Rockingham – but one of the inherent strengths of this team is our ability to come out punching when our backs are against the wall. From where we are in the championship, we have to push flat-out and whilst as a circuit, Silverstone doesn't necessarily suit our strengths – it's essentially just a series of straights – such is the wildly unpredictable nature of the BTCC that you genuinely never know what's going to happen. We came from behind last year to win the title, and although it's clearly a bigger mountain to climb this season, I can guarantee you we will be giving it 100 per cent all the way to the final chequered flag.'

Matt Neal:

'As the 'Home of British Motorsport', Silverstone has a special appeal and it's always good to go back there, even if the National Circuit itself isn't the most challenging on the BTCC calendar. We have some work to do after Lady Luck stubbornly refused to smile on us at Rockingham, and from a personal point-of-view, my job is to support 'Flash' and help Honda and Halfords Yuasa Racing to close the gap in the Manufacturers' and Teams' standings. Qualifying tends to turn into something of a draft-fest at Silverstone, meaning track position will be key and if you secure a good starting spot, it sets you up nicely for race day – so that's the goal.'
