Ferrari introduced their 550 Maranello in 1996 and it served as a replacement to the F512M (which in turn had replaced the legendary Testarossa). The 550 Maranello was a front-engine V12 GT with a total of 448 examples produced before it was replaced by the 575M. Five examples of the 550 Barachetta were used as the basis for the 550 GTZ. The Zagato bodied car has a history with the Ferrari Company that dates back to 1948, with the Ferrari 166 MM. The relationship between the two companies continued throughout the years, with various models and specials resulting from the union. The modern Ferrari 575 GTZ is an aluminum-bodied car that has seating for two occupants. The basis for the 575 GTZ was the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina. Three Barchettas and five coupes were built.
