The front-engined, rear-wheel drive Porsche 928 ushered in the 1990s with a final, special rendition example dubbed the GTS. It was given the most powerful and largest V8 engine ever installed in a road-going Porsche. Multi-piston brakes provided ample stopping power (four-piston caliper brakes using discs from the 911 Turbo in front), and subtle updates to the bodywork included a new spoiler, side mirrors, and exclusive 17-inch light alloy wheels. With a base price of $82,260, their exclusivity was nearly guaranteed. Power was from a dual overhead cam, aluminum V8 engine offering 345 horsepower at 5700 RPM and 369 lb-ft at 4,250 RPM. Displacement rose from 5-liters to 5.4-liters, raising horsepower and making it the most powerful V8 to date. Transmissions included either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. Exterior changes for 1993 included wider rear fenders and new five-spoke 'Turbo-design' 17-inch wheels. Another change for 1993 was the name, which was now the 928 GTS. Just over 2,900 examples were built between 1992 and 1995.
