1933 Essex Terraplane Deluxe Six Series KU 1933 Essex Terraplane Deluxe Six Series KU Essex was the 'lower priced' division of the Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit. The smaller, lightweight Terraplane was introduced in 1932 and christened by Amelia Earhart with a bottle of aviation fuel. The Essex name was discontinued after 1933, and the cars were known simply as Terraplanes from then on.

The Essex Power Dome six-cylinder engine produces ninety-seven horsepower and Terraplanes held many hill climb records in their day. This Terraplane won the Newport, Indianan Hill Climb in 2007, in its class. The notorious outlaw John Dillinger was known to appreciate the speed of Terraplanes and is thought to have said 'A Terraplane is faster than a Ford and easier to steal.'

The current owner purchased this car in 1979 and spent the next 18 years collecting parts for its restoration. The restoration started in 1997 and the Essex was on the road in 2000.
