1946 Hudson Series 58

1946 Hudson Series 58 1946 Hudson Series 58 1946 Hudson Series 58 Sold for $46,750 at 2015 RM Sotheby's Hershey Auction.
The Hudson-built pickup was one of the first post-war trucks to be based upon passenger car engineering and to offer many of the same comforts of its passengers. It was powered by Hudson's long-stroke side-valve Super Six engine with a chrome alloy cylinder block and mated to a column-shifted three-speed transmission with a cork-insert, oil-immersed clutch.

In the back, the cargo box had 48 cubic feet of volume and the ability to haul up to ¾-ton of payload. The front-end sheet metal of the body was similar to the Hudson cars.

For 1946, Hudson trucks accounted for about three percent of the 95,000 vehicles built by the company, with 3,374 examples sold.

This particular Series 58 has been cosmetically restored in Black and Pine Green, with a natural wood finish in the truck bed. The interior features burgundy upholstery and a red steering wheel. The steel wheels are finished in Pine Green. The engine is an L-head six-cylinder unit displacing 212 cubic inches and offering just over 100 horsepower. There is a three-speed column-shifted manual transmission with Bendix four-wheel drum brakes.
