Brougham
Beginning in business in Indianapolis in 1898 as the Indian Bicycle Co., the electric Waverley was built under several different names. It became part of Colonel Pope's empire in 1908 with the merger of the American Electric Vehicle Co. of Chicago and the Pope-owned Indian Bicycle Co. In 1909 with the company floundering, it was purchased by a group of Indiana businessmen who organized a new company. From 1912 on they gave their car the appearance of a gasoline automobile, though the company produced only electric vehicles until its demise in 1916.This example is powered by a 96-volt DC electric motor. Its original owner was a woman from Fort Scott, Kansas. It is currently in the care of its third owner. Unbelievably, it has traveled only 1,500 miles from new. It has never been restored and wears its mahogany trim, finish, fabrics, and light bulbs. It is, however, riding on its second set of tires....in 105 years.
