1956 Ford Popular

The Ford Popular was a car produced in England between 1953 and 1962. It was often called the Ford Pop and when it was introduced, it was Britain's lowest-priced car. Power was from a Ford side-valve 1172cc four-cylinder unit offering 30 horsepower.

The Ford Popular was an inexpensive car because it was a basic car, devoid of a heater, vinyl trim, and very little chrome. They had a single vacuum-powered wiper and painted 'chrome' bumpers. Inside was a three-spoke banjo type steering wheels.

The Ford Popular proved to be 'popular' with a total of 155,340 examples of the first series 103E produced between 1953 and 1959.

The 103E model was replaced by the 100E in 1959 and would remain in production until 1962. These two-door saloon's were powered by a 1172cc side-valve engine offering 36 horsepower. The brakes were now hydraulic and measured 8-inches at all four corners.
