SEMA Show vehicle previews production model, features new Duramax 6.6L diesel
LAS VEGAS ― Snow happens. And when it does, the Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition concept is designed to make quick work of it.2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition Concept
Equipped with a custom stainless steel snowplow, this work-ready truck is designed to forge a path in the toughest winter conditions. It also previews the production Alaskan Edition package that incorporates a factory snowplow prep package.

'No matter what the weather brings, Chevrolet HD trucks are designed to make the toughest jobs easier,' said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Truck marketing director. 'The new Alaskan Edition gives customers in snow country a stronger tool for tackling the worst that winter throws at them.'

The Alaskan Edition concept stands out with a custom silver-accented blue exterior and grizzly bear graphics. It also features chrome bumpers, grille, emblems and trailering mirrors, along with 20-inch chrome wheels. A leveling kit ensures an even stance for the truck when the plow is attached.

Inside, a rubberized floor covering makes it easier to brush out snow and ice, while Alaskan-themed embroidery distinguishes the seats.

The concept vehicle builds on the production Alaskan Edition offered on 2017 Silverado HD Work Truck and LT models that includes the available snowplow prep package, 18-inch wheels with max-traction DuraTrac tires, smoked amber roof marker lights, a spray-on bedliner and distinctive graphics. The snowplow prep package is offered across the model range and includes a power feed for auxiliary lights, 220-amp alternator, underbody shield, heavy-duty front springs and more.

'Silverado HD trucks are designed to perform in the most extreme jobs and conditions ― and that's just what the Alaskan Edition delivers,' said Piszar. 'Backed by the new, available Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel, it will tackle the toughest jobs with confidence and dependability you can count on for the long haul.'

Next-generation Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel
The next-generation Duramax 6.6L V-8 turbo-diesel engine offered in the 2017 Silverado HD lineup delivers more horsepower and torque than ever ― an SAE-certified 445 horsepower (332 kW) and net 910 lb.-ft. (1,234 Nm) ― for easier, more confident hauling and trailering.

Along with a 19 percent increase in max torque over the current Duramax 6.6L, the new engine's performance is quieter and smoother for greater refinement. It also advances the Duramax's legacy of low-rpm torque production, offering 90 percent of peak torque at a low 1,550 rpm and sustaining it through 2,850 rpm.

Models equipped with the new Duramax 6.6L incorporate a unique induction system that draws air through a bold air intake scoop on the hood.

'With nearly 2 million sold over the past 15 years, customers have forged a bond with the Duramax diesel based on trust and capability,' said Dan Nicholson, vice-president, Global Propulsion Systems. 'The new Duramax takes those traits to higher levels.'

The Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition concept joins approximately 20 additional Chevrolet models at the SEMA Show. Follow the action at ChevySEMA.com, #CHEVYSEMA, @ChevroletPerformance on Instagram and Chevrolet Performance on Facebook.
