Base Chevy Malibu models were no longer offered in 1982, leaving only the Malibu Classic in both Sport Sedan and Station Wagon body styles. Standard equipment included automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, dual horns, full wheel covers, stand-up hood ornament, notchback front bench seats with folding armrests, and front stabilizer bar. Power was from a 229 cubic-inch V-6 or the optional 267 CID or 305 CID. Also, diesel engines were offered including the 4.3-liter V6 or the 5.7-liter V8 from Oldsmobile. The 4.3-liter diesel was Chevy's first V6 versions, although it was actually produced by Oldsmobile. The engine featured roller hydraulic valve lifters, a serpentine belt system, a venturi-shaped prechamber, aluminum cylinder heads, and a torque-pulse compensator. Aluminum was also used on the intake manifold, water outlet, and oil pump body. In the front, the Malibu Classic wore a crosshatch grille similar to the one on the Caprice. On either side of the grille were quad rectangular headlamps that rested above horizontal quad parking and signal lamps. The bodies had bright wide upper grille moldings, bright windshield reveal moldings, bright sill and roof drip moldings, and wide wheel opening moldings. The interiors were done in either cloth or vinyl. Other interior features included a dome light, day and night mirror, and a lighter. For 1982, Chevy produced 70,793 examples of the sedan and 45,332 examples of the station wagon.
