In 1893, Elmer and Edgar Apperson of Kokomo, Indiana partnered with Elwood Haynes to construct an automobile. Together they formed the Haynes-Apperson Automobile Company in 1898, only to be dissolved a few years later, in 1901. The Apperson brothers and Haynes went on to form separate companies, and the first Apperson-branded automobiles debuted in 1902. It was located in Indianapolis and would produce automobiles through 1926. In 1907, the Apperson Brothers Automobile Company introduced a performance-inspired Jack Rabbit nameplate. The company had a knack for names, selling such models as the Silver-Apperson, and the Roadplane. The most famous, however, was the Jack Rabbit. The name Jackrabbit was eventually applied to the entire Apperson line. This particular Apperson vehicle is an 8-19 Anniversary Touring, so-named because this year celebrated the Haynes-Apperson's 25th anniversary. Only about 20 Apperson automobiles are known to exist. This example is powered by a V-8 engine, has room for seven passengers, and there are front bucket seats and folding rear jump seats. The dashboard features Waltham gauges, and there is a curved bell-shaped radiator and torpedo headlamps.
