1964 Big Daddy Roth Orbitron

Hot Rod Magazine calls it 'the most incredible barn find ever!' The Orbitron, created in 1964 and lost shortly thereafter for nearly 35 years, was recently uncovered in Mexico serving as a makeshift dumpster in front of an adult bookshop. Michael Lightbourn rescued the fiberglass-bodied hot rod and Beau Boeckmann, President of Galpin Auto Sports, acquired it specifically to restore it to its former glory. Its asymmetric fiberglass and plywood body and 'space age' influences featured a nose with a strange headlight housing that incorporates beams of red, green and blue light to produce a single white light. It is painted cosmic candy blue with a fur-carpeted interior, has a color TV, and is topped with Roth's signature acrylic bubble top. The restoration included saving the original engine, transmission, and carburetor along with the re-chroming of 2,600 individual pieces. A duplicate vintage TV and blue fur carpeting were also sourced. There was enough of one of everything on the car to replicate the balance, such as the spinners on the wheels.
