1989 Cadillac Brougham

Cadillac began using the single name 'Brougham' on a special model in 1987 when the 'Fleetwood' name was dropped from the former Fleetwood Brougham. Cadillac had made the decision to use the shorter name when they introduced a new, smaller, front-wheel drive model in 1985 and dubbed it 'Fleetwood.' The optional 'dElegance' package (which had been introduced in the upscale Fleetwood trim line in the 1970s) was available on and appended to the names of both models. This resulted in a traditional body-on-frame/rear-wheel drive 'Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance' and a unibody/transverse engined 'Cadillac Fleetwood d'Elegance' fully two feet shorter and weighing 800 pounds less.

For 1989, the Brougham was given a new vertical-slat grille, which was similar to the prior year's grille. The Cadillac script could now be found on the grille. The padded roof option could be purchased in a choice of five new colors bringing the total to 12 choices. Power was from an overhead valve V-8 engine displacing 307 cubic inches and offering 140 horsepower. Its wheelbase measures 121.5 inches, making it the largest vehicle in the fleet and a full 15.7 inches longer than the next largest vehicle.

A 100-amp generator was now standard equipment. Other new standard features included a cruise control electronic level control, electrically powered chrome outside mirrors, controlled cycle wiper system, trumpet horn, and power trunk lid release. Pricing began at $25,700 for the 4-door sedan.
