1903 Dyke Runabout

Ander Lee Dyke was born in 1875 in Dykesville, Louisiana, and between 1898 and 1904, he sold various 'kit cars.' He founded America's first parts business and published a line of repair catalogues that were predecessors of today's Chilton manuals. He designed and built several parts for the automobile, and offered various engines for sale. In 1899 he organized the St. Louis Electric Automobile Company and offered two body styles including a stanhope and a runabout.

In 1901, he sold his company to the Scott Automotive Company. He continued to produce automobiles for a number of years, later turning his talents and applying his knowledge and creativity to the written word. He wrote several books including a mail-order course of instructions about automobiles.
