Bentley replaced their six-cylinder engine in the autumn of 1959 with an all-aluminum 6320cc V-8. It was smooth, quiet, and well-engineered. It had hydraulic tappets, steel wet cylinder liners, along with modified braking and lubrication system, power steering, and a four-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. Air conditioning was optional and vehicles fitted with this feature were painted either off-white or silver.
Drophead Coupe by Park Ward & Co.The Bentley S2 Series and the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II had similar appearance and both received V8 power. Production of the Bentley S2 Series lasted from 1959 through 1962 with a total of 2,310 examples produced. Body styles included a 4-door saloon in both short and long-wheelbase versions. H.J. Mulliner, Park Ward, Radford, and James Young also produced custom bodies for the S2 Series. The S2 Series had a wheelbase size of 123 while the long-wheelbase version had 127 inches.
