Volvo continues to refine its §egmènt-defining XC70 crossover. All-new two years ago, the XC70 is available in two models for 2010. The XC70 3.2 AWD offers a new PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle rating) version of its naturally aspirated 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine. Compared to the unchanged ÚLEV version, the PZEV produces slightly less horsepower (225 vs. 235), wîth the benefits of reduced emissions and increased fuel economy estimates.
Minor trim and equipment changes for the XC70 include a new grille wîth a larger Volvo iron mark, chrome trim accents around the side windows and revised options and option packages. Introduced last year, the XC70 T6 AWD gains standard leather seating surfaces, power front passenger's seat, classic wood interior décor inlays and 18-inch 'Merac' alloy wheels.
The T6 features a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that delivers 281 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Maximum torque is on tap from just 1,500 rpm and remains available all the way up the rev range, resulting in quick acceleration and smooth drivability.
Both XC70 models are fitted wîth a six-speed 'Geartronic' automatic transmission that enables the driver to shift manually when desired. Standard All-Wheel Drive wîth Instant TractionTM ensures the best possible road grip in all situations. Electronic Hill Descent Control (HDC) uses the vehicle's brakes and engine torque to crawl in bottom gear on steep downhill slopes.
The available Technology Package builds on Volvo's heritage of innovation and safety. Volvo's latest preventative safety technologies focus on preventing driver distractions that studies show cause up to 90 percent of all traffic accidents. Based on this statistic, Volvo developed efficient technologies to help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of accidents caused by distraction and driver fatigue. The package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning wîth Auto Brake (CWAB), Distance Alert (DA), Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
Introduced on the XC70, a height-adjustable integrated booster cushion, standard on the T6 and optional on the 3.2, teams wîth an extended inflatable curtain. This combination provides the 's best passenger safety system for precious cargo (your children) in the rear seat. A strong side structure uses high-tensile steel of different grades to optimize side-impact protection.
The XC70's extensive list of standard amenities can be augmented wîth a world-class sound and navigation system. The new Multimedia Package includes Premium Sound Dynaudio® wîth a 650-watt amplifier, Dolby Pro-Logic II Surround Sound and 12 Dynaudio® speakers, SiriusTM satellite radio and the Volvo Navigation System wîth HDD, DVD map data and remote control. ÚSB and AÚX inputs are standard in the 2010 Volvo XC70.
Cargo carrying flexibility is the XC70's forte. The luggage compartment floor is equipped wîth aluminum rails and movable storage points to secure the load. Side panels also have built-in load anchorage eyelets to keep luggage securely in place. In addition, they can be supplemented wîth multifunctional rails for a variety of hooks, load-anchoring nets, cargo space dividers and other load related accessories. As a result of Volvo's dynamic product strategy, a variety of new and exciting models were released in 1996. These included the S70 sedan, the station wagon V70 and the Volvo 850 Bi-Fuel. The 850 Bi-Fuel was fitted with twin fuel systems that made it capable of being driven with either methane gas or petrol. The V70 station wagon and the S70 sedan were advanced in Volvo technology and included a new 4-wheel drive on the list of options. To compete in the growing sport-utility market, the V70XC, a variant of the wagon was created. With additional plastic on the car body to make it look intimidating, the suspension of the V70ZC was higher than the V70's.

The best selling vehicle in Sweden for numerous years, over 80% of V70's were sold in Europe, and one third in Sweden. Volvo had a new strategy of naming vehicles depending on size and body style, the V was appended for Versatility, S for saloon, and C for the new Coupe. These were basically the same car as the 850, with 1,800 improved and new parts in the design, along with upgraded safety, new engine, and better handling.

Closely related to the S70, S60 and S80, which are all sedans, the V70 four-door station wagon has been the best selling vehicle in Sweden for numerous years.
The XC70, the off-road version of the V70 lineup, came with a slight lift in ground clearance, and sturdy plastic body cladding in the sides, front and back of the vehicle. The V70R was the highest performance variation in the V70 lineup, and had a rear spoiler and a turbocharged 300 hp engine.
An all new V70 was released in 2000 that was based on the P2 platform, which had been first utilized for the entire Swedish-designed Volvo S80 sedan in ‘98. Sharing the same sheet metal ahead of the B-pillar with the Volvo S60, the V70 had different grilles and front bumpers, (though the interior and the dashboard remained basically identical.)
For the 2005 model year, only minor updates were made of the V70, which included small styling changes to the tail lamps, and the front fascia.
On February 2nd, 2007 the third generation of V70's was introduced. This was a more up-market car than the previous generations, though it remained the same size. The rear-seat legroom was increased two centimeters, and the load area volume in the revised tailgate design was increase by 55 liters. Sharing little with the other Volvo models externally, the new V70 had a 3.21 straight-six, a 3.01 turbo straight-six, a light-pressure turbo 2.51 straight-five and two 2.41 straight-five diesel engines.By Jessica Donaldson
