The early 1930s were a difficult time due to the Great Depression, yet Nash was one of the few companies to turn a profit in 1931, earning $4.8 million. The Nash eight-cylinder models of 1932 and 1933 are some of the most attractive cars of their era, with lightly streamlined styling, flowing fenders, attractive bodies, and a subtle vee'd radiator shell. 1932 Nash automobiles featured ride control, five-point rubber-insulated engine suspension, 'synchro-shift' and freewheeling.

Six-cylinder cars in the 1932 Nash Model lineup included the Series 1060 'Big Six' and the Series 960 'Six.' The Series 960 was similar in appearance to the Series 970 'Eight,' which was similar to the styling of the 1931 Series 870, but with a slightly tilted radiator. The 'Bix Six' had a similar design to the 1070 ' Standard Eight' but with shorter front fenders and hood. Other models in the lineup were the 990 'Eight', 980 'Eight', and the Series 1080 'Special Eight.' Bodystyles, bright work, engine capacity, and horsepower rating were among the distinguishable features among the 'Eight' and 'Six' models.

The Special Eight Series 1080 was powered by an overhead-valve, nine-main bearing engine with solid valve lifters, a Stromberg carburetor, a 260.8 cubic-inch displacement, and developed 100 horsepower at 3400 RPM. The engine was backed by a three-speed selective, sliding gear transmission with a single dry plate clutch. Along with the Series 1090, it had a spiral bevel drive while the other models had a semi-floating rear axle setup. Mechanical brakes were on all four wheels, along with artillery or wire wheels. Options included single or dual side-mount spare tires, side mount covers, and freewheeling. The wheelbase measured 128 inches which was nearly the longest available platform - only the Series 1090 was longer at 133 and 142 inches.
