One Final Podium Completes The Rx Journey For Team Peugeot Total

Team PEUGEOT Total enjoyed a strong finish to its FIA World Rallycross Championship adventure in South Africa, claiming its 9th podium this season courtesy of Sébastien Loeb. For the 2nd time after Latvia, all 3 of the PEUGEOT 208 WRX made it through to the final. In a hard-fought race, Loeb finished in 3rd place, and this was his 7th podium from 12 events in 2018, which included a victory in Belgium. The team's youngster, Kevin Hansen, finished 4th, his best performance – for the second time - this year, whilst his brother Timmy unfortunately had to retire (DNF), as he could not avoid the contact with a stopped rival in the dust. The team managed to secure a top 3 position in the overall Team Championship classification, for its first year in the discipline only.

'We bring our rallycross adventure to a close with a podium and three cars in the final, which is a very nice way to finish our year. Of course we would have hoped for more, with a repeat of our win earlier this season, but this only underlines what a tough championship this has been all year, with such a strong level of opposition both from our rival drivers and teams! Special congrats to Johann Kristoffersson, very impressive! South Africa got off to a very good start for us, with a one-two in the first qualifying session, but we weren't quite able to keep up the same momentum over the rest of the weekend, although it was very close. Nonetheless, I think we have proved the speed and the potential of the 208 WRX in the time that we have been here. I'd like now to pay tribute to all our people – in every role throughout Team PEUGEOT Total – who completed such good work in such a very short space of time. The fact that we were as competitive as we have been this year within such a tight timescale speaks volumes about their talent and commitment.'

Sébastien LOEB, PEUGEOT 208 WRX Evo #9 – 3rd in Cape Town Final

'The car was good here, very fast, but we already proved that throughout the year. We have been working hard on this programme, made significant changes to the PEUGEOT 208 WRX in mid-season, and I think for our first official season we put in a good performance. In this last race, we were again very competitive and in the fight from start to finish. It was a good weekend and 3rd overall is a good result, especially as everything is always so linked to that first corner, and it was messy again in the final. I am honestly happy about today and about this season. Just one victory this year is still one victory! I don't know what I will do next year: for sure it wasn't great news about the end of the programme, but I will find some other challenges, probably as a privateer.'

Kevin Hansen, PEUGEOT 208 WRX #71 – 4th in Cape Town Final

'It was amazing to get to the final once again! I am so pleased to have got the car into the final for my crew; it was really the main goal every weekend. I was challenging for the podium again, but finishing with a 4th place is still nice, as it equals my best result this season. At 20 years old, being in a factory team, you learn a lot! I will take all this experience to grow. I think it will be very important to help prepare myself to become world champion as soon as possible. It's so emotional after this race: all the people working in this team are amazing and I am so thankful. Merci à tous!'

Timmy Hansen, PEUGEOT 208 WRX Evo #21 – 6th in Cape Town Final

'Coming out from the dust, I hit Solberg that has done a spin, and that broke my triangle. I had to retire. It's been five years with PEUGEOT for me, so it's emotional now that it's all ending. I am proud of what we have done. I am happy for everything that's been given to me throughout the years; we have some fantastic memories. I am proud of everything we achieved. It has been a good season this year again. I am happy with the overall result, happy for being with the guys at PEUGEOT Sport, for sharing this journey with them. It's difficult for me to speak now, my voice is shaking because it's all quite emotional! I just want to make sure that everyone know that it has been very positive for me.''
