Among the Chevrolet Vega many praises and accolades at its debut was the 1971 Motor Trend Car of the Year Award. It was a versatile and economical lightweight car that would become a popular option for hot rods and performance modifications. For 1972, the Vega came with functional vent louvers, Flush-and-dry rocker panels, side marker lights and reflectors, front bucket seats, and a rear bucket-style bench seat. They had an all-vinyl upholstery, an ashtray, dual speed windshield wipers, an exhaust emission control system, and a three-speed manual transmission. Body styles included a 2-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and a 2-door station wagon. The four-cylinder engine displaced 140 cubic-inches and offered 80 horsepower.
