1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Navigation
The 1750 Series received an increase in its bore dimension, resulting in the '2000' for the 1972 model year. The engine now displaced 1962cc and offered nearly 130 horsepower, thanks - in part - to the Spica fuel injection system. The vehicles destined to remain on the European continent still had the two Weber sidedraft carburetors. Alfa Romeo introduced the Berlina four-door sedan first, though nothing had really changed in terms of design to its 1750 counterpart. It had quad headlamps, '2000' badging at the rear, steel disc wheels and 165HR14 tires. Later in the year, the GTV (GT Veloce) coupe followed, wearing a price tag of $4950 ($700 more than the sedan). The Alfa Romeo 2000 was equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. An automatic option would not appear until 1974. A limited-slip differential was available and there was an 8,000 RPM tachometer and a speedometer that went up to 140 mph (though top speed was in the neighborhood of 110 mph). Zero-to-sixty took about 9.7 seconds. For 1972, Alfa Romeo produced 140,595 vehicles with 50,293 of those being the Model 2000.

The Alfetta was something of a last hoorah for pre-Fiat Alfa Romeo. Stylish and engaging, yet tragically flawed, the Alfetta turned out to be something of a....
