Packard produced nearly 32,000 vehicles for the 1935 model year with almost 25,000 of those sales coming from the new 'Junior' Series - a new medium-priced One-Twenty model. For 1936, Packard One Twenty sales totaled 55,042 units, eclipsing the total production of the previous year, proving that the One Twenty was popular and provided the necessary cash flow for the Packard marque. Without it, Packard may have likely folded after 1934. Total production of the 'Senior' models – the Eight, Super Eight, and Twelve – was just 5,985 units including 1,330 Super Eights. The Fourteenth Series Packards were virtually a reprise of the Twelfth – the most obvious decision being not to use the unlucky number thirteen. They were introduced in August of 1935 and this was the second year that Packard's use of a series designation ran concurrently with the actual model year. Significant styling changes included a five-degree-sloping radiator with the modification of the fender fronts to blend with it. Chrome strips were added to the Eight's headlights. A Delco-Remy ignition with an octane sensor became standard as were permanently lubricated clutch throw-out bearings, which were connected to the Bijur lubrication system. The Packard Super Eight was built atop the Packard Series 15 chassis. Power was courtesy of the inline eight-cylinder engine with side valves that produced an adequate 135 horsepower. With a weight in the 2300 kg neighborhood, the 2+2 convertible sports car had a top speed of around 135 km/h.At the beginning of 1936, a Packard was pulled at random from the production line and started running at the Packard proving grounds. For seven days it ran with stops for only gasoline, oil, and water. As the show closed in New York, the Model 1404 Super Eight had run over 15,000 miles - a testament to the unique quality of the marque.
