BREMBO FORMULA ONE AUSTRALIA BRAKE FACTS

March 13, 2015 by Brembo

• Company continues to provide braking statistics in 2015

DETROIT, (Mar. 13, 2015) - Brembo is pleased to continue an initiative developed specifically for the media covering the F1 world championship that shows braking facts for F1 cars specific to each circuit, starting with this weekend's Formula One Grand Prix of Australia.

For each of the 20 races in the Formula One season, Brembo will be compiling a practical 'Identity Card' which summarizes the main instrumentally measured braking parameters for each circuit. This data is provided directly by Brembo technicians working at the circuits using the know-how gained from more than 40 years of experience in the most prestigious form of motorsport.

'The Identity Card created for each championship circuit collects the outline specifications and explains the technical data for the key braking points using a clear, intuitive diagram,' said Daniel Sandberg, CEO, Brembo North America. 'For those of us who love the technical aspect of the sport, the Identity Card shows several key braking performance statistics including the speed at the start and end of braking, braking time and distance, maximum deceleration, maximum brake lever force and braking force on each bend. We will also provide Brake Identity Cards for the upcoming MotoGP and IndyCar races.'

New for 2015, Brembo builds on the revolutionary Brake by Wire (BBW) system implemented in 2014. Last season, the brake balance was shifted more towards the front wheels. As the year progressed, maximum braking torque increased by 15 percent. This increase in braking torque was the result of continuous developments in aerodynamics, which increased the amount of available grip.

This season Brembo ushers in yet another evolution in assisted braking, alongside major improvements to further optimize brake system cooling. Teams equipped with Brembo will use new and more efficient brake calipers, which benefit from a better integration into the wheel corner - a factor which also contributes to improving the overall aerodynamic performance of the race car. The manufacture of each of these new brake calipers in aluminum/lithium requires more than 14 hours of consecutive machining achieving the perfect balance between weight and stiffness.

All teams equipped with Brembo will use the improved CER 300 disc material, while Brembo continues its research in this field to produce composite materials that continue to offer more performance and controllability. All teams are equipped with new ventilated CCR 700 brake pads. During the season, Brembo supplies on average 10 sets of calipers, 140-240 discs and 280-480 brake pads to each two-car teams.

Brembo has developed a dedicated Formula One site within the official Brembo website. In addition to technical data relative to the braking points of each circuit, this dedicated section also offers race fans countless other fascinating facts about the braking systems created for Formula One race cars. www.formula1.brembo.com.
