Clark Gable's 1938 Packard Darrin to Compete In Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA - July 31, 2015 - This stunning convertible, sold by coachbuilder Howard 'Dutch' Darrin to movie star Clark Gable in 1938, will be among some 200 classic cars competing for trophies in the 23rd annual Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, September 20.

The theme of the Concours, which will be held at the Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, will be Automotive Standards of the World, and the featured Marques will be Cadillac, Darrin Coachwork and Ferrrari, according to Exhibition Committee Chairman Dick Croxall

Twenty one classes have been established to showcase a variety of automobiles that exemplify excellence in the automotive world. An exciting new class is Cars of Special Interest which will showcase unique and noteworthy cars for which there is no official class this year.

'Los Verdes is high in the Palos Verdes hills with impressive ocean views of Catalina Island and the coastline all the way to Malibu. It is exhibitor friendly with close-by parking for trucks and trailers and easy exhibitor and attendee access to refreshments and restrooms. The exhibit areas are a short walk from the clubhouse and there will be shade areas and food and beverage service available on the exhibit grounds, according to Concours Chairman Ray Johnson.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe will serve as the Concours' Grand Marshal.

The Concours is a 501(c) (3) charity event with proceeds benefitting Palos Verdes Rotary Foundation charities, including Harbor Area Boys & Girls Clubs, and Palos Verdes Art Center's community outreach programs, including art experiences for differently-abled youths and adults in Los Angeles County..
