1934 BUGATTI AWARDED BEST OF SHOW AT THE 2016 KEENELAND CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE
July 25, 2016 by Keeneland ConcoursLexington, KY -- July 22, 2016 -- A 1934 Bugatti Type 57 was named Best of Show at the 13th annual Keeneland Concours d'Elegance at the historic Keeneland Race Course. The show field featured three classes of this year's featured marque Chrysler, and a class of winged warriors, the Dodge Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds that were prominent in NASCAR in the 1970s. The cars on display ranged from a 1908 Lozier to a 2016 Mercedes AMG GT, with a special class of Hollywood cars and group of horse drawn carriages built by companies that later constructed bodies for automobiles. 'We had another stunning field of collector cars and motorcycles from across the country, many of which you won't get to see any where else,' said Tom Jones, co-chair of the Concours. 'The event just keeps getting better, and we're thrilled that so many people came out to share the day with us at Keeneland.' The Judge's Choice Award went to a 1937 Chrysler Imperial C-15 Town Car. A 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago won the People's Choice Award, and a 1937 Peugot Darl'mat 402 Coupe was named Children's Choice winner. The 1934 Bugatti Type 57 was presented by Clem & Mary C. Lange of Indiana. The car was originally ordered by German film star Hella Hartwich, who liked the Franay body. The Bugatti Type 57 model was an entirely new design by Jean Bugatti, son of founder Ettore, and this car is one of 710 Type 57's built from 1934-1940. This is the only known Type 57 originally fitted with dual rear-mounted spare tires. For the full list of class winners, visit the Keeneland Concours Winners List. Rolls-Royce will be the featured marque for next year's Keeneland Concours d'Elegance, July 13-16, 2017.
