BLENHEIM, Ontario (22 July 2020) – RM Sotheby's is pleased to announce the latest highlights for its upcoming Online Only: Open Roads, North America auction, a time-based online auction set to open for bidding at 1:00pm EDT on 23 July with staggered closure on lots to begin at 11:00am EDT on 30 July. Running as a pre-cursor to RM Sotheby's highly anticipated Online Only: SHIFT/MONTEREY sale, the North American-based auction will offer 92 motor cars, one motorcycle and 11 lots of memorabilia curated by RM Sotheby's specialists specifically for the online auction platform.

Leading the final entries into the sale is a desirable, big block 1965 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra 'Sanction II', chassis no. CSX 3067, designed to provide more power and better handling than its predecessor, the 289 Cobra. Carroll Shelby's goal was to dominate the FIA GT class of racing with the new 427 Cobra, but with only 51 of the required 100 completed cars built by the time of inspection, Shelby was denied FIA certification and the series was left uncompleted. In 2014, the Carroll Shelby Trust elected to finish the remaining 427 S/C chassis numbers, offering the new cars as 'Sanction II' models.

Fitted with a 550 hp Shelby FE 429 cu. in. V-8 engine and a four-speed manual gearbox, CSX 3067 features the original-style swept forward shifter, horn button, Raydot mirrors and Lucas headlights, adding to the overall authenticity. Presenting in as-new condition and showing a mere five miles on the odometer, this iconic Cobra would certainly stand out in any collection of sports and racing cars (Est. $400,000 – $500,000).

Joining the 'Sanction II' is an additional pair of desirable Cobras—a 1965 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra '1000 Series' and a 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra '8000 Series'. Among the finest of the Shelby Cobra continuation cars, the 427 S/C Cobra '1000 Series', chassis no. CSX 1017, wears an aluminum body that was hand-formed in England before the car made its way stateside to be finished in-house at Shelby's Las Vegas facility. Its power comes from a high-performance Shelby FE 452 cu. in. V-8 engine married to five-speed Tremec manual transmission. CSX 1017 is an excellent low-mileage example, showing fewer than 150 miles, and holds the unique distinction of having its glovebox signed by Carroll Shelby (Est. $225,000 – $275,000). One of approximately 50 produced to honor the 40th anniversary of the CSX 2000, the 289 Cobra '8000 Series', chassis no. CSX 8502, wears a lightweight aluminum body with an impressive 450 hp, 331 cu. in. V-8 engine under the hood. Finished strikingly in Guardsman Blue with black leather seats, the authentic Cobra comes available in virtually as-new condition with only test miles on the odometer (Est. $220,000 – $250,000).

Additional standout highlights in the Online Only auction include:

• A desirable four-option 2005 Ford GT, one of 477 examples built for 2005 finished in Centennial White with Blue racing stripes and showing just 1,929 miles from new (Est. $285,000 – $325,000);

• An ultra-collectable, early, LHD 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster, restored by Jaguar expert Richard Darnell, subsequently earning 100 points in JCNA competition, and owned twice by Indy 500-winning driver Bobby Rahal (Est. $250,000 – $300,000);

• A rare 'stripe delete' 2019 Aston Martin Rapide AMR, one of 210 examples built for 2019, equipped with a 580 hp, 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V-12 engine paired with Touchtronic III eight-speed automatic transmission and showing less than 300 miles (Est. $230,000 – $250,000);

• Presented in attractive Nero over Nero, a desirable 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 'Six-Speed', having been serviced in May 2020 and offered with less than 26,000 miles (Est. $210,000 – $230,00);

• Offered from the collection of Terry Johnson, a low-mileage 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe wearing a stunning two-tone Black Metallic Pearl and Brushed Stainless Steel exterior over a Creme interior (Est. $160,000 – $180,000);

• Originally owned by noted privateer driver Laurie Craig, a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe, successfully campaigned in period, having achieved 1st overall at the 1966 Westwood Motor Sport Park Players Pacific Championship, and once driven by Sir Stirling Moss (Est. $135,000 - $165,000).
