F1 Champion Jameson Button's Carrera Sells For $975,000 on Collecting Cars Platform

by Collecting Cars | July 9, 2021
A 2004 Porsche Carrera GT originally owned and driven by 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button sold for €820,500 ($975,000 USD), while a 2019 Porsche 91 (991) Speedster 'hammered down' at €285,500 ($339,000 USD), during an extremely busy holiday weekend on the Collecting Cars auction platform.
A total of 37 bids were submitted for the Carrera GT, which was presented to 2009 Champion Button, who captured the coveted title with victories in Australia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Spain, Monaco and Turkey. One of the automotive world's preeminent analogue supercars—the Carrera GT is equipped with a race-bred 612 hp 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
The Carrera GT comes with a letter from Button's personal assistant, confirming the racing driver's prior ownership. Also included is the original and exceptionally rare, boxed pewter sculpture of the V10 engine. A gift presented to future owners upon ordering a Carrera GT, this set is adorned with a plaque engraved with Jenson's name.
Activity was also extremely competitive for the 2019 Porsche 911 (991) Speedster, with 32 bids entered for the stunning open-top supercar. With only 565 km (351 miles) on its odometer, this Porsche is presented in Paint-to-Sample Maritime blue. Its 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine produces 510 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque, coupled to a six-speed GT sports manual transmission.
