Stellar selection of cars for Hampson's Bolesworth sale on 'Star Wars Day' – Sunday, 4 May

Hampson Auctions has amassed a stellar selection of classic, performance and supercars for next week's sale at Bolesworth Castle on Sunday, 4 May (aka 'Star Wars Day'). While sadly missing any starships, the wonderfully diverse entry list covers everything from sleek 1960s sports and GT cars to quirky little classics and contemporary high-end performance machines. And, in a 'stop press' moment, the Hampson team is currently busily cataloguing a last-minute entry - no fewer than 24 cars all consigned from a private collection.

The Bolesworth entry is headed by the astounding 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage. One of just 136 Aston Martin DB4 coupes made with the uprated Vantage specification, this has been the subject of a no-expense-spared restoration, which included a £40,000 engine rebuild by Aston Martin specialists RS Williams (estimate: £400,000-£500,000).

The monumental 2024 Rolls-Royce Phantom on offer was optioned with over £60,000 worth of extras, which brought its original purchase price in February last year up to a whisper under £500,000. This immaculate and extraordinarily highly specified example of the pinnacle of the exalted Rolls-Royce range has covered just 1,800 miles since it left the Goodwood factory and has an estimate of £350,000-£400,000.

The sale features another exceptional Rolls-Royce - a 2018 Wrath Black Badge Adamas Collection model. One of only 40 produced worldwide, this limited-edition model is the epitome of luxury and performance and has covered just 13,000 miles from new (£190,000-£210,000).

The unique 1966 E-type Jaguar Series One underwent the most diligent and far-reaching restoration and upgrading during 2020 at the hands of long-established Jaguar specialist Woodham Mortimer, who took the opportunity to create their vision of E-type perfection in what they call the '4.7 Sport GT' (£200,000-£300,000).

Ferrari fans have the opportunity to snap up a 1996 456GT, finished in ultra-rare Azzurro Monaco blue exterior with tan leather interior. Of the mere 141 right-hand drive Ferrari 456GTs sold in the UK between 1994 and 1998, just two were boasted Azzurro Monaco paintwork. With just £26,000 miles on the clock, the 456GT carries an estimate of £38,000-£42,000. The 2011 Ferrari California, a glorious open-top 2+2 with a howling 4.3-litre V8 engine also carries a £38,000-£42,000 estimate.

Hampson's Bolesworth sale also features not one but two Nissan R35 GT-R Recaros, each with just delivery mileage only. The 2016 example has covered just 160 miles and the 2017 R35 GTR just 95 miles! These 'time warp machines' have estimates of £65,000-£75,000 and £75,000-£85,000 respectively.

Classics on offer include a delightful - and rare - 1980 Morris Mini Van. This eye-catching little vehicle is offered at No Reserve and would make an ideal promotional vehicle for a business or would be tremendous fun to take to classic car events. Mini fans can also get their hands on a 1963 Austin Mini Cooper S with period race history. Originally owned by famed Mini racer George Lawrence of Ridgeway Racing, it has been beautifully restored (£30,000-£35,000).

Fiat enthusiasts have a choice of two classic examples. The rare 1965 1500 Cabriolet was imported new by its first owner in 1965 - and remained in the same ownership until 2003 (£12,000-£14,000), while the cheerful, terracotta-hued 1975 500 R is just waiting to be taken out and about on sunny days (£6,000-£8,000).

Classic Ford fans will be delighted by the meticulously restored, rare and highly desirable 1973 Capri 3000 GXL, with 3-litre V6 Cologne engine (£14,000-£16,000) and the 1988 Escort RS Turbo with highly appropriate 'E5 CRT' registration. Offered at No Reserve, this car benefited from a full engine rebuild in 2023, with tuning by JamSport.

The beautiful 1958 Jaguar XK150 due to go under the hammer at Bolesworth has impeccable provenance. Its first owner was the Earl of Moray, who reportedly used it as his personal car. The Earl retained the XK150 right into the 1980s and even commissioned a full nut and bolt restoration by specialist David Holmes shortly before he sold it (£30,000-£40,000).

The last-minute consignment of 24 cars from a private collection contains a glorious assortment of machines, with many offered at No Reserve. Entries include a charming little 1934 Fordson petrol tanker, with Pratt's Petroleum livery and a sleek 1964 Alvis T21 Saloon. They also include two rare, Hooper-bodied cars: a 1955 Daimler Century, believed to be one of just two remaining out of three produced, and a 1956 Bentley S1 Hooper Body, one of only 39 built.
