$270,000 Sale of 1997 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 4S Establishes Global Record For Collecting Cars

by Collecting Cars | November 1, 2021
Auction Marks Highest Price Ever Registered For A 911 Carrera RS
The transaction, which featured a total of 23 bids, furthers the promimence of Collecting Cars among Porsche enthusiasts. It follows May 16 auction of a 2006 Porsche Carrera GT, which 'hammered down' at $1,405,000 and the September 29 sale of a 1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined By Singer for $1,099,044.
With only 1,126 miles on its odometer, the record-setting 993 Carrera RS is ppowered by a 282bhp 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox with four-wheel drive. A 'time capsule' example of the final air-cooled 911, it is one of just 1,752 examples of the Carrera 4S built for the US market, boasting a wider body from the 911 Turbo of the era. As a late model-year car, it is fitted with the VarioRam engine.
Presented with the desirable factory Aerokit that includes front and rear spoilers, this rare Carrera 4S features stainless steel exhaust tail pipes and door entry guards, colored Porsche 'crest centre' caps for the wheels, 'alu-look' instrument dials and a leather dashboard and door panels. It also features an engine sound package, cruise control, air conditioning, sunroof, and the CDR-210 stereo.
