WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Celebrates 65th season with Commemorative logo

by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca | January 10, 2022
As WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca speeds into the 2022 event season – the 65th in the track's illustrious history – a new commemorative logo has been created to recognize the historic achievement and year-long celebration.
Pete Lovely – a future Formula One racer and owner of Pete Lovely Racing in Fife, Wash. – took Laguna Seca's inaugural checkered flag behind the wheel of his 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa.
One can't help but imagine what the 'Dry Lagoon' looked like in 1957. Hay bales and picket fences were placed to keep spectators 'safely' just feet away from the cars as they roared through the turns.
The legends who drove or rode the nine, which then stretched to 11 in 1988, turns over the 65 years became household names. Drivers like Dan Gurney, Sir Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Phil Hill, Paul Newman, Mario Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Roger Penske, and Carroll Shelby – who drove a Maserati Tipo 61 in the final race of his legendary driving career – are just several who made appearances in Monterey. Then there were the motorcycle racers who favored the Monterey hillside like Wayne Rainey, Valentino Rossi, Eddie Lawson, Kenny Roberts and the late Nicky Hayden. The list of legends can go on and on in the chronicles of Laguna Seca with new names being added every year.
Now, 65 years later, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will feature eight premier events on the world-renowned 2.238-mile track. To celebrate the 65th anniversary, the 2022 premier event schedule begins this spring with the Trans Am Speedfest April 22-24, followed by the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship featuring the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship, presented by Motul, April 29 – May 1.

After a mere 60 days of construction the green flag waved on Nov. 9, 1957, for the Eighth Annual Pebble Beach Road Race, which was the first race ever held at Laguna Seca. This race was the continuation of the Pebble Beach Road Races that sped through the Del Monte Forest between 1950 and 1956.
New ticket packages, from single day to comprehensive VIP packages – as well as premier camp sites – are now available for all eight events by calling the Tickets and Accommodations specialists at (831) 242-8200 or by visiting www.WeatherTechRaceway.com.
