Dixon, Honda Complete Detroit Weekend Sweep

Scott Dixon again mixed speed with his trademark fuel-saving strategy to head a Honda 1-2-3-4 sweep of today's Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. The six-time series champion scored his second NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory of 2024 and claimed the lead in the Drivers' Championship after six of 17 races.

Pitting on Lap 56 of the 100-lap contest on the streets of downtown Detroit, Dixon took over the lead on Lap 66 and was never headed, for his 58th career win. A late-race charge saw Marcus Ericsson bring his Andretti Global Honda home second.

Using the same strategy as his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Marcus Armstrong finished a career-high third – and ran out of fuel just after taking the checkers. Kyle Kirkwood led a total of 24 laps mid-race and then completed the top-four Honda sweep.

Today's win also completed a weekend sweep of both major races in Detroit for Honda Racing Corporation USA, as the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti duo of Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor were victorious in the Saturday's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event.

Marcus Armstrong (#11 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) finished third, career-best INDYCAR finish: 'I ran out of fuel as we came across the line, so we didn't leave anything in the tank metaphorically or literally out there. It was a lot of fun. I'm happy with that. Exhausted, but happy! And to be part of a Honda 1-2-3-4, that's just awesome. Road America is my favorite track here in the states, so I'm really looking forward to that one. We're just going to make next week a little bit more simple, ideally, and be on the podium again!'

• With today's 1-4 sweep, Honda has now won eight of the last 11 NTT INDYCAR SERIES events held in the Motor City – including last year's inaugural run on the new downtown street circuit and six of the final nine events run on a temporary street circuit at Belle Isle Park.
