Renault is pleased to announce that the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric is one of seven finalists shortlisted by the European Car of the Year jury for the prestigious Car of the Year 2025 award.
A jury of 60 journalists from 23 countries tested and assessed a total of 42 vehicles before shortlisting the seven finalists. Succeeding last year's victor – the Scenic E-Tech 100% electric – the winner will be announced on 10th January 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show.
For the fourth consecutive year, Renault has a model among the seven finalists:
• 2022: Megane E-Tech 100% electric
• 2023: Austral
• 2025: Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric
Alpine, which had also competed in the 2019 final with its iconic A110, is once again in the final race of the election with the A290, its brand new 100% electric city sports car, alongside Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric.
A renaulutionary electric pop icon
Launched in 1972, the original Renault 5 made its mark with a modern, non-conformist design. For millions of families, it was a car that addressed the challenges of the time.
In 2024, the original was reinvented with the Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric, an all-electric vehicle, 3.92 metres long, with a design to capture the heart. Built on the new AmpR Small platform with multi-link rear suspension borrowed from the next segment up, the electric pop icon delivers a dynamic and enjoyable driving experience. At the same time, its electric and digital features are both functional and fun. Built locally in northern France as part of a sustainable production system, Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric has all the qualities necessary to establish itself as the benchmark city car for the energy transition.
Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric launched in France last October, is gradually being rolled out across Europe.
For over 12 years, Renault has sought to bring electric mobility within everybody's reach. Following the launch of two all-electric vehicles in the C segment – Megane E-Tech 100% electric and Scenic E-Tech 100% electric – Renault is turning its attention to the B segment with Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric, to be followed by Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric in 2025. These two models play a key role in accelerating the uptake of electric vehicles and strengthening Renault's position as a leader in the new era of sustainable mobility.
Alpine A290, the hot hatch for the electric age
With the launch of the A290, Alpine enters a new era. An era of reinvented electric sportiness. It resurrects the so-called 'hot hatch' category and embodies the first stage of the Alpine Dream Garage, presented in 2021 as part of the Renaulution plan. It will soon be joined by the A390 sport fastback and the new A110.
Boosted with Alpine DNA, the A290 packs the sensations so appreciated at the wheel of the A110 into a sporty city car. Developed on the AmpR Small platform shared with Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric, the A290 is compact, agile and offers high performance that's easy to exploit, while guaranteeing comfortable everyday use.
With its sharp design, first-rate technical features, ultra-complete connectivity and numerous possibilities for driving personalization, the Alpine A290 is a new-generation Alpine, designed to embrace the electric era.
The A290 is also manufactured in France at the Manufacture of Douai, part of ElectriCity, and its 180 hp and 220 hp electric motors come from the Cléon site.
