• Renault wins four categories at the AutoEV Electric Car of the Year Awards
• Renault 5 E-Tech electric takes the 'Best Urban EV' and 'Viewer's Choice' awards
• Scenic E-Tech electric crowned 'Best Mid-Sized Family EV'
• Renault presented with 'Innovation Award' for its commitment to sustainability
After its range of pure-electric vehicles contributed to an average of more than one award a week in 2024, Renault has entered 2025 in similar style with a quartet of accolades at AutoEV's Electric Car of the Year Awards, including recognition for the brand's innovation and commitment to sustainability.
The Renault 5 E-Tech electric scooped two individual awards, starting with class honours in the 'Best Urban EV' category, an award presented to vehicles under £30,000 with urban-centric values at heart. Proving that the Renault 5 E-Tech electric is a winner in the eyes not just of the judges but also the car-buying public, it then went on to claim the crown in the 'Viewer's Choice' category.
AutoEV's Creative Director, Charlie Hutton, said: 'The new Renault 5 is a worthy winner of both of these awards as it shows how retro can be done right. Renault's design team shows that desirability is now a word that can be used around electric vehicles and the car will take the fight to the new MINI Cooper and Fiat 500 as the style icon for a new generation.'
The Renault Scenic E-Tech electric continued the winning-streak by taking the top spot in the hotly-contested 'Best Mid-Sized Family EV' category.
AutoEV's Editorial Director, Bryan McMorran, added: 'With the new Scenic, Renault showed that they really understood what made a great family car. The fact that it also happens to be a superb electric car as well is just an added bonus. Along with our previous Car of the Year winner, the Megane, and now the new 5 and forthcoming 4, Renault have shown themselves to be the European manufacturer to beat when it comes to designing, engineering and building great electric vehicles.'
With its bold Renaulution strategy, Renault set its sights on making electric cars that are both desirable and accessible, while advancing the industry's adoption of sustainable manufacturing principles. It is this dedication that inspired the AutoEV team to present Renault with its prestigious 'Innovation Award.'
'Renault have shown true commitment to their home country of France by ensuring that not only are their new electric vehicles designed and engineered in France, but that they, and the majority of their components, are built there,' continued McMorran.
'This type of commitment to sustainable manufacturing not only benefits the environment with their promise that the site will be carbon neutral in 2025, but also benefits the local economy, reduces transportation costs, build times, and therefore production costs which, in turn, are passed onto the consumer by the way of cheaper electric vehicles. As if there wasn't enough reason to love the Renault 5, the whole car is built incorporating 19.6% of recycled materials, with the car itself on course to achieve a level of recyclability of 88.6%. It's this level of consideration to the local engineering and production community, the environment, France as a whole, and importantly, the consumer, that ensured this year's recipient of the Innovation Award was truly well deserved.'
Adam Wood, Managing Director, Renault UK, said: 'These latest awards are further proof that our Renaulution strategy is working. Our latest electric vehicles are desirable, innovative and accessible, and these awards for Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric are further proof that Renault delivers class-leading technology for the electric era'.
