•Ávila plant has received an investment of €100 million to develop the model and get prepared for its launching.
Ávila (Spain), February 18th, 2014 - Nissan has celebrated the start of production of new NT500 light duty truck in Ávila plant. Managing Director and Vice President Nissan Spanish Industrial Operations, Frank Torres; Spanish Industry Secretary, Begoña Cristeto; Program Director of Nissan Motor Company, Keiichiro Miyanaga; Castilla y León President, Juan Vicente Herrera and the Major of Ávila, Miguel Ángel García Nieto have chaired the ceremony where the second eye of a Daruma doll has been painted by three employees to be grateful for the success of this project.
NT500
All-new NT500 offers high levels of driver comfort with a new chassis cab, and a new cabin with high levels of quality, modern and functional. New light duty truck is offered in a wide variety of wheelbases with gross vehicle weights starting at 3.5 and rising to 7.5 tonnes; and also two engines, two transmissions -manual across all models and robotised at 7.5 t- and three model grades.
NT500 sets Nissan in the best position to achieve the goal set in 'Nissan Power 88' plan: a global market share of 8% in 2016. New medium duty truck joins Cabstar, NV200, NV400, Evalia and Navara -a list that in a few months will be enlarged with electric eNV200, produced in Barcelona for the whole world- and positions Nissan as the brand with the widest range of commercial vehicles in Europe.
All-new truck, key to assure mid-term Nissan Spain industrial operations
With the start of production of these all-new light duty truck Nissan strengths its operational footprint in Spain. Ávila is the mother plant for light trucks in Europe. NT500 has meant an investment of €100 million to develop the model and prepare the factory and its local suppliers for its launching. Designed in Japan, NT500 is a project leaded by Nissan Technical Centre in Spain.
NSIO Vice-president, Frank Torres, has stated today that NT500 is a key asset to guarantee Nissan Spain Industrial Operations in the mid-term future as it widens the range of vehicles that the Japanese company produces in Spain: commercial vehicles, light duty trucks, SUVs and pick ups. In a few months, a new electric van (eNV200) and a new hatchback (both to be produced in Barcelona plant) will join this list, which also will be done by a new pick up truck, to be produced in mid-2015. Furthermore, Cantabria plant has been allocated with new parts for flagship Nissan vehicles such as new Qashqai, Note or LEAF -the first electric vehicle mass-market produced. These new products have meant an investment of €431 million.
New Collective Agreements signed with unions have let all Nissan Spain plants improve their competitiveness and flexibility. Both have been key to receive new product allocations which will guarantee their mid-term future and their sustainable growth. This is the only way to receive more model allocations.
