£65 MILLION CHUBB INSURANCE CONCOURS D'ELÉGANCE AT SALON PRIVÉ 2013

Chubb Insurance Concours d'Elégance – Wednesday 4th September
Syon Park, London, 29 August 2013 –This year's Chubb Insurance Concours d'Elégance at Salon Privé, with an unrivalled line-up of 11 classes featuring nearly 100 entries and the most prestigious judging panel in the event's history, is set to be the biggest and best yet at the UK's premier boutique luxury motoring event.
A small selection of interesting entries is listed below:
1926 Rolls-Royce Springfield Silver Ghost (Graceful Pre-War Motoring)
One of the best of the very few that remain, the chassis for this car was originally completed in August 1926 and fitted originally with a Pickwick saloon before being changed by the Rolls-Royce factory to the Playboy Roadster it is today in 1932.
1932 Aston Martin Le Mans (100 years of Aston Martin)
LM9 stormed to victory in its class during its return visit to Le Mans in 1933, coming fifth overall and second in the Rudge Cup. A Concours d'Elégance debut, this is LM9's first public appearance in many years.
1933 Alfa Romeo 8C (Wind In Your Hair)
Built to Le Mans specification with lungo chassis and body, a near original example with no major replacement components, this 8C was imported into the UK from Italy in 1937 by Thomson & Taylor, the British Alfa Romeo agents.
1936 Mercedes-Benz 540k (Graceful Pre-War Motoring)
One of the most significant Mercedes-Benz autos ever built, this Sport Cabriolet A is presented in an extremely rare configuration. The exceptionally low windshield and set back radiator give the body a very sporty stance with the twin rear spares adding a European flair, particularly when compared to a conventional Cabriolet A body configuration.
1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (Little Saloons – the Birth of the Berlinetta)
Steve McQueen took delivery of this car new in 1963, sealing this 250 GT Lusso's place as a superstar forever. It has featured in the Matt Stone book 'McQueen's Machines', taken part in the Ferrari tribute Mille Miglia and won the 2010 Ferrari Owners Club National Concours. Restored to exacting standards in 1997, this is a must-see of Salon Privé 2013.
1964 AC Shelby Cobra 289 (Wind In Your Hair)
This AC Cobra makes its Concours debut at Salon Privé, in private hands since new, with just one owner between 1965 and 2011, it is one of only 45 leaf spring 289 models ever produced. Meticulously restored in the 1980s by Autokraft of Brooklands, this model boasts the original AC Cars sales leaflet and green UK logbook from 1964.
1924 Peters Aurora (One-offs and Oddball Motorcycles)
Possibly the only example of its kind, this 1924 Aurora by Peters Motorcycles is entered by the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. Described as unusual, imaginative, rare and obscure, it is a must-see of the motorcycle classes.
The Concours d'Elégance judging day is preceded by the Chubb Insurance Tour d'Elégance on Tuesday 3rd September. A selection of cars with a combined value of some £22 million will embark on a 30-mile ride from the Royal Automobile Club's Woodcote Park, via a lunch-stop and free-to-view public parade at Mercedes-Benz World from 12.30pm, before arriving at Syon Park that evening, ahead of the opening of Salon Privé the following day.
