2002 Buick LeSabre

The origins of the Buick LeSabre nameplate date to the late 1950s when it served as a mid-level full-size automobile positioned above the Special and below the Electra. The styling introduced in 1959 was brief, lasting two years before going in a different direction as the LeSabre and all other full-sized Buicks embraced a more conservative appearance devoid of rear tailfins, more restraining use of chrome trim, and a boxier overall design.

The LeSabre was built through eight major styling changes, with the final introduced in 2000 and lasting through 2005. This 'Eighth Generation' was introduced in March 1999 and built atop GM's G-body platform (albeit GM continued to call it the H platform) with a 112.2-inch wheelbase, a length of 200 inches, and a height of 57 inches. The four-door sedan was powered by a front-mounted 3.8-liter Series II '3800' V6 engine that developed 205 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. It was paired with a four-speed 4T65-E automatic transmission powering the front wheels.

Distinguishable styling features included a new oval-shaped grille that did not open with the hood, a slightly more curvaceous body, and a wide, rounded windscreen. The new pollen filter was accessible through the engine compartment on the passenger side against the firewall. Trim levels continued to include the 'Custom' and 'Limited.' The Custom was the base level trim, and the Limited was the premium level, adding a front hood ornament and alloy wheels.
