2006 GMC YUKON AND YUKON XL REFINEMENTS COMPLEMENT TRUSTED MANEUVERABILITY

Continual refinements designed to further enhance performance, comfort and convenience highlight the 2006 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SÚVs as they enter their final model year of the current generation. These evolutionary changes lay the groundwork for the next generation of Yukon SÚVs, which will build on the maneuverability, roominess, comfort and uncompromising capabilities that have made the vehicles so valued by customers. GMC Yukon and Yukon XL offer a wide choice of models to fit every need, including two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, half-ton and three-quarter-ton ratings, and with four different-displacement engines, including the Vortec 4800 4.8L V-8, Vortec 5300 5.3L V-8, Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 and Vortec 8100 8.1L V-8. In addition, the Vortec 5300 is a Flex-Fuel engine, which can operate on a combination of gasoline and E85 ethanol fuel. (concept carz) Yukon interiors can be configured for five to nine passengers. Cargo room is expansive, with up to 104.6 cubic feet (2,962 L) of available space behind the first-row seats in Yukon and up to 131.6 cubic feet (3,726 L) of cargo space behind the first-row seats of the Yukon XL. Changes for model year 2006 Yukon and Yukon XL include: Integrated OnStar/XM Satellite Radio antenna – The roof is now smoother and less cluttered thanks to a new single, combined antenna located on the left-front corner of the roof. Improved emission performance – The catalytic converters are moved closer to the engine to meet improved emissions performance guidelines. Vortec 5300 Flex-Fuel V-8 – All retail equipment groups can get the Vortec 5300 5.3L Flex-Fuel V-8 (L59), which can run on standard 87-octane gasoline or a combination of gasoline and E85 ethanol fuel. (concept carz) Úp to 85 percent ethanol can be used. Tire pressure monitoring system on 3/4-ton models – The Yukon XL 2500 models join the half-ton Yukon models with standard tire pressure monitoring systems. Available power adjustable pedals – All equipment groups now offer the availability of power adjustable pedals, which improve comfort for a wide range of different-height drivers. Extendable power-adjustable camper mirror – A new vertical camper mirror has a larger glass area and manually extends outward for improved towing visibility. It includes heated, power-adjustable flat glass and integrated turn signals. A convex 'spotter mirror' has also been added, which improves the field of vision by approximately 20 inches. Several interim additions were made to standard equipment during the 2005 model year and carry over into 2006. Those changes include: StabiliTrak standard – All half-ton Yukon and Yukon XL models have standard StabiliTrak, GM's electronic stability control system, with proactive roll avoidance. Electrochromic rearview mirror – A light-sensitive, auto-dimming electrochromic rearview mirror is standard on all Yukon models. The mirror also contains a compass, outside temperature indicator and right front passenger air bag status indicator. OnStar standard – All Yukon models are equipped with OnStar and a one-year Safe & Sound service subscription. Steering wheel controls – All Yukon equipment groups have standard steering wheel-mounted controls for audio and driver information center functions. Professional Grade powertrains

Yukon 's front suspension is an independent torsion bar design with a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension uses a multi-link coil spring design on half-ton models and a dual-stage multi-leaf spring design on 3/4-ton Yukons . An Autoride, bi-state variable shock dampening and rear air-assisted load-leveling suspension package is available. An off-road suspension package (Z71) is available on 4WD Yukon models. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and a locking, heavy-duty rear differential are standard. Yukon XL 2500 series can tow up to 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg) when properly equipped. The base towing capacity is 7,700 pounds (3,493 kg).

In addition to StabiliTrak , Yukon and Yukon XL have a full complement of standard safety and security features. Dual-stage frontal driver and right front passenger air bags are standard. Dual-stage air bags reduce the risk of air bag-induced injury by sensing the crash severity. Depending on the conditions the air bags may or may not deploy. The primary stage alone will deploy in most frontal impacts requiring supplemental protection beyond safety belts. Safety belts remain the primary and most effective form of occupant protection. In severe frontal collisions the secondary air bag stage will deploy. Side-impact air bags for the driver and front outboard passenger are available. Yukon and Yukon XL use GM's Passenger Sensing System (PSS) to turn the front passenger air bag on or off. The system turns off the front passenger air bag if a small occupant is sensed. GM strongly recommends that children should be in appropriate child safety seats in the second or third row of the vehicle. Never install a rear-facing infant seat in front of an active air bag. GM also recommends that all children 12 and under ride in a rear seat whenever possible. GM's LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child-seat attachment system provides a secure means of anchoring child safety seats to the vehicle seat structure. Denali models are equipped with GM's PASSlock II theft deterrent system. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard. The brake systems feature Hydroboost, which provides additional power assistance for braking under specific conditions. OnStar-equipped Yukon and Yukon XL models feature OnStar dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment. OnStar's digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the Únited States and Canada . Úsing the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Hands-Free Calling that allows drivers to make and receive voice-activated phone calls using an externally mounted antenna for greater reception. Interior comfort and versatility

Spaciousness is a key attribute of GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models. They were designed to haul people and cargo and can accommodate as many nine people. The first row will accommodate 2 or 3, the second row will also carry 2 or 3, and the optional third row will hold 3 passengers. Cargo capacity behind the third-row seat is 16.3 cubic feet (461 L) in the Yukon and 45.7 cubic feet (1,294 L) in the Yukon XL. The Yukon XL has a wheelbase that is 14 inches longer and 20 inches more total length. Second-row seats can be flipped forward for more cargo room and the third-row seats are removable to create a flat load surface. Yukon interiors are very well equipped. Available options allow owners to customize Yukons to their specific needs. Seating surfaces are available in plush Custom Cloth or luxurious leather. A vinyl third-row split bench seat is also available. The standard front seat is a 40/20/40 split bench, but bucket seats with a center console are available. The standard folding second-row seat features a 60/40-split bench and captain's chairs are available. Several sound systems are available including XM Satellite Radio. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system is available. A touch-screen navigation radio is also available. OnStar is standard, including a one-year subscription to the Safe & Sound service.Source - GM Media
