1976 Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco, launched for 1966, was the company's first dedicated 4x4 sport-utility vehicle. It had a purposeful square body design with standard bumpers, independent front suspension, and a short wheels offering a tight 35-foot turning radius. Initially, the body styles included a wagon, pickup style half-cab, and a roadster. The interior featured bucket seats, a rear bench seat, and tachometer. Power came from Ford's 170 cubic-inch engine offering 105 horsepower. This was later upgraded with a heavy-duty fuel pump and a special carburetor float ensuring fuel delivery on steep grades. In late 1966, Ford's 289 cubic-inch V8 became available. The sole gearbox was the three-speed column-shift manual transmission; an automatic transmission became available from 1973.

The original-series Bronco production began in 1966 and continued through 1977. Little was changed over the years. They were rugged, simple, and practical. It was built on a separate frame and its body changed over the years, keeping with the times, and gradually evolving from a Jeep equivalent into a family vehicle.
