The Minardi PS04B was raced during the 2004 season. It was based on its predecessor, the PS03 and as such, was similar in many ways. This was consistent with many of the other teams throughout F1 racing; little was changed. Racing regulations often dictate changes and this was true for 2004; the FIA required modifications to the dimensions of the engine cover and rear wing end plates. Aerodynamics were changed, bodywork was new, and new front wing. The vehicles electronic system and control software for the engine, gearbox and clutch was upgraded. The engine is a ten-cylinder Cosworth C3L unit that is mated to a Minardi six-speed sequential gearbox. Disc brakes and double-wishbone suspension can be found on all four corners. The car made its debut at the Misano's Autodromo Santamonica where it was driven by Zsolt Baumgartner and Gianmaria Bruni.
At the close of the 2004 season, the team was in 10th place in the Constructors Championship.
