In 1971, Volkswagen introduced a Super Beetle, featuring a bigger trunk and a coil spring suspension. The car was promoted by Volkswagen as having 89 improvements, including a sixty-horsepower overhead-valve four-cylinder engine. There were new flow-through vent ports and chrome trim behind the side windows, and an updated front-lid shape.

View info and historyThe Beetle was sold as a two-door sedan, Sunroof sedan, or convertible. Pricing ranged from the low $1800s to $2400. The Beetle rested on a 94.5 inch platform while the Super Beetle grew to 95.3 inches. A four-speed manual gearbox was standard and there were drum brakes at all four corners.
