The postwar Imperial was created by Chrysler as an extra luxurious and larger version of their product. For 1964, the Imperial was restyled and the model lineup was reduced to four cars in two series. The Imperial Crown was the base trim level, while the Imperial LeBaron Series was the top-of-the-line series. If the design seemed inspired from the Lincoln-Continental, it was because it was styled by Elwood Engle who Chrysler had hired from Ford two years earlier. For 1965, 16,235 examples of the Imperial Crown series were produced. Total production for the make was 18,409. The Imperial Crown retained much of its 1964 styling but received a new mesh-pattern grille, divided by chrome into four sections. The headlights were now recessed behind glass panels. In the back, the familiar spare-tire continental kit remained. Standard equipment included power brakes, power steering, power windows, carpeting, an electric clock, a padded dash, and remote control outside rearview mirror.
