1955 Mercedes-Benz 220a Series

The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 220a Series consisted of a sedan, convertible, cabriolet, and coupe. The largely hand-built Cabriolet A had joined the Mercedes-Benz W187 Series of sedans and four-seat cabriolets in late 1953. They were constructed in limited numbers and often built for society's elite, celebrities, and politicians. The Cabriolet A rested on a 112-inch wheelbase and just a few hundred were built each car.

Powering the 220a Series was a 2195cc overhead-cam engine offering 92 horsepower and 116 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated to a four-speed manual transmission and hydraulic drums were placed at all four corners. The Sedan had a base price of nearly $4,600 while the Cabriolet listed for $6,300 and the Coupe was listed at $6,450.
