1939 Chrysler Royal

The 1939 Chrysler models had similar grilles, although each was slightly different. The body styling was new, with headlamps recessed into the fenders, and narrower running boards. The C-22 Royal series had two wheelbase sizes including a short 119-inch platform and a longer 136-inch version for the 7-passenger sedan and limousine. Body styles on 119-inch wheelbase included a coupe and Victoria coupe, 2-door brougham, and 4-door sedan with seating for five. There was also a Windsor sub-series which could be identified by its model name in chrome located on the front hood sides. The Royal Windsor's had nice interior appointments and was more luxurious.

New styling features included a vee-shaped windshield, a front bumper with a dip in its center, and a twin bar guard setup. The name 'Chrysler' was placed on either side of the front nose. Standard equipment included hydraulic brakes, an illuminated speedometer, and Solar Spark ignition.

Power was from an L-head, six-cylinder engine displacing 241.5 cubic inches and offering 100 horsepower. An optional 107-horsepower version was available. The engine was mated to a three-speed synchromesh transmission with a conventional clutch and two-gear ratios available.

Chrysler had used the Royal name since 1933 as the model name for CT series, and 'Royal' would continue until 1950. It was later used as a trim level on the Chrysler Newport from 1970 to 1972.
