1999 Oldsmobile Alero Navigation
The 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, built at the Lansing, Michigan plant, was available as either a coupe or sedan in GX, GL and GLS trim levels. Powering the base GX and GL models was a dual overhead cam 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine offering 150 horsepower and backed by a 4T40-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transaxle. The GLS models had a 3.4-liter V6 engine offering 170 horsepower and fitted with a 4T45-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. The GL models could be purchased with the optional 3.4-liter engine with the 4T45-E transaxle. Standard equipment included four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, daytime running lamps, solar control tinted glass, air conditioning, rear window defroster, all-speed traction control, intermittent wipers, 70/30 split-folding rear seat for trunk access, stainless steel exhaust system, and tilt steering. Other standard features included a remote power trunk release, theft-deterrent system, and power rack-and-pinion steering. Exterior features included clear lens headlamps and tail lamps, safety cage construction with impact absorbing upper and lower frame rails, steel door beams and cast foam energy absorbers. A Sport Package was optional on the GL sedan and added 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. A Performance Suspension Package was available on the GLS coupe and added 16-inch aluminum wheels, P225/50R16 performance-rated tires, stiffer springs and modified damping.
