1912 Renault Type CB

The Renault Type CB was introduced in 1910 and produced in a variety of styles of coachwork through 1912. A Type CB Coupe de Ville is famously remembered for being on board the RMS Titanic upon its sinking in April 1912.

Like early Renaults, the Type CB wore the distinctive 'coal scuttle' hood and a radiator that protruded on each side of the engine. The unconventional position of the radiator utilized thermo-siphon or convection cooling in which increased temperature provided more circulation and cooling to the engine. This setup eliminated the need for a water pump.

Louis Renault and his brothers, Marcel and Fernand, launched Renault Freres in 1899. It is one of France's oldest marques and has remained dominant in the French automobile market. In 1898, Louis gained notoriety for developing a direct drive gearshift mechanism for a voiturette that climbed the Montmartre hill in Paris.
