VOLVO CARS LEADS EUROPEAN AUTOMAKERS WITH MOST IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS AWARDS
December 8, 2016 by VolvoVolvo Cars has won the 2017 Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the Volvo S60, V60 and XC60 luxury SUV with Active Dual Xenon headlamps. The Volvo S90 luxury sedan and XC90 luxury SUV won the Top Safety Pick designation for 2017. As of today's announcement from IIHS, Volvo leads European car manufactuers with the most Top Safety Pick Plus awards. All Volvo models have been recognized by IIHS for safety. An August 2016 report from IIHS showed that cars outfitted with Volvo City Safety, which included vehicle detection, reduced rear end crashes by 43% and those with injuries by 45%. In 2017, the Volvo S90 and XC90 will include large animal detection with automatic emergency braking, aimed at further preventing or mitigating accidents on the road. 'Volvo's commitment to safety is crystalized in our Vision 2020, which states that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020.' Said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA, 'Our new cars prove that luxury, style and performance can perfectly compliment world-leading safety.' Cars awarded Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick Plus are currently available at local Volvo retailers.
