1929 Nash Series 430 Special Six

The Nash Motor Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin, produced automobiles from 1916 through 1937. It was an automotive division of the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation from 1937 through 1954. Nash merged with Hudson Motors to form American Motor Corporation (AMC) and from 1954 through 1957, Nash automobile production continued under AMC.

The 1926 Nash model lineup included the Advanced 'Six,' the Special 'Six,' and the Light 'Six,' the latter becoming the Standard Six in 1928. For 1929, the Advanced Six (Series 460) rested on a 121 or 130-inch wheelbase (depending on body style), The Special Six (Series 430) used a 116 and 122-inch wheelbase, and the Standard Six (Series 420) had a 112.25-inch wheelbase. The tires measured 32 x 6.00, 29.5.50, and 30 x 5.00, respectively.

The Standard Six was priced from $885 to $1000, the Special Six from $1,245 to $1,350, and the Advanced Six from $1,480 to $1,990.

The Advanced Six was powered by an overhead valve, 278.4 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine with solid valve lifters, seven main bearings, a Marvel updraft carburetor, and delivered 78 horsepower at 2,900 RPM.

The Special Six received a 224 cubic-inch, overhead valve, inline-6 with seven main bearings, a Marvel updraft carburetor, and produced 65 horsepower at 2,900 RPM.

The Standard Six had an L-head, 184.1 cubic-inch inline-6 with solid valve lifters, seven main bearings, a Carter updraft carburetor, and delivered 50 horsepower at 2,800 RPM.

Both of the overhead valve engines received 'Twin Ignition,' where two spark plugs fired each cylinder.

All three engines were paired with a three-speed selective, sliding gear transmission with a single dry plate clutch and floor shift controls. Mechanical brakes on all four wheels provided the stopping power.
