The Hupp Motor Car Company of Detroit was co-founded by Robert 'Bobby' Hupp (a former Ford and Oldsmobile employee) and Charles Hastings and were joined by investors J. Walter Drake, Joseph Drake, John Baker, and Edwin Denby. Automobile production lasted from 1909 through the late summer of 1939.

Auction entries : 1The Hupmobile used four-cylinder power through 1925 - the same year it was joined by an 8-cylinder option. The 1920s were a period of rapid changes for the Hupp Motor Car Corporation, with steady gains in production, and its automobiles grew in size and luxury, and the engines also grew in capacity and power. The Model A was introduced in 1926, replacing the prior four-cylinder model, and rested on a 114-inch wheelbase and was equipped with a six-cylinder engine. It was joined by the Model E which had a 118.25-inch platform and an eight-cylinder engine. Six and eight-cylinder models for the remainder of its existence.By 1929, just prior to the onset of the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression, Hupmobile models included the Series A and the Series M. The Series A used a six-cylinder engine with 57 horsepower and rested on a 114-inch wheelbase. The Series M had a 120-inch wheelbase and its eight-cylinder engine offered 80 horsepower. Both the Series A and Series M were offered as a five- and seven-passenger tourer, roadster, brougham, coupe, sedan, and five-passenger cabriolet. The Series A added a two-passenger cabriolet and the Series M included a five-passenger town sedan. A long-wheelbase version with a 130-inch wheelbase was used to carry the seven-passenger sedan and limousine.
