1977 Jaguar XJ6

The 1977 Jaguar XJ6 was available as both a coupe and a sedan. Power was from a dual-overhead-cam six-cylinder engine that displaced 258.4 cubic-inches and produced 162 horsepower. It had a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission, Dunlop tires, with four-wheel disc brakes. A total of 1,835 examples of the Coupe were sold in the United States along with 10,956 examples of the sedan.

Standard equipment included an eight-track tape player, stereo radio, and automatic-temperature-control air conditioning system.

The XJC was a two-door version of the XJ6 four door saloon and was the last Jaguar car to be designed and built by Sir William Lyons. In 1969, Sir William used a rejected 2.8-liter XJ6 body shell and fashioned it into the XJC. A 4.2- and 5.3-liter engine were tried with both versions becoming known as XJ33 or XJ34, depending on which engine was installed at the time. Automatic and manual gearboxes were also tried using both engines.

The XJC was first shown in September and October of 1973 at the London, Paris and Frankfurt Motor Shows. Both the 4.2-liter 6-cylinder and 5.3-liter 12-cylinder versions would be available for the 1974 model year.

The U.K. market, buyers had the option of air conditioning, transmissions, and the choice of leather or cloth seats. All coupes were equipped with a black vinyl roof as standard equipment, except for one example which was produced for Jaguars Andrew Whyte.

Production of the XJC was short, lasting from 1975 through November of 1977, although the final 96 coupes were badged as 1978 cars. A total of 6,505 XJC models were built.
