1904 Packard Model L

The Packard Model L was introduced in late 1903 and was available as a runabout, surrey or tonneau. Power was from an L-head four-cylinder engine that displaced 241.7 cubic-inches and delivered 22 horsepower. The wheelbase measured 94 inches and rode on 34x4 tires. The Model L was giving a three-speed sliding gear transmission with a bevel gear differential and mechanical brakes on the rear wheels. Top speed was in the neighborhood of 40 mph. The body was comprised of aluminum over wood, with aluminum also found in the crankcase. The engine was formed from a cast-iron block. The standard paint scheme for the Model L was Richelieu blue for the body with black moldings and cream yellow striping.

Optional equipment available on the Model L included head lamps, wicker side baskets, and sight feed oil gauge. The Model L came standard with two side oil lamps, a rear oil lamp, bulb horn with a tube, tool kit, and storm aprons in both the front and the rear.

Packard's legacy was continuing to build, with sales up sharply over the prior year. For 1904, Packard produced over 200 vehicles.
